Lisa Simpson, M.B. B.Ch., M.P.H, F.A.A.P.
Lisa Simpson is Director of the Child Policy Research Center (CPRC) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. CPRC's mission is to develop and communicate evidence-based information for policy makers, program leaders and advocates to support a commitment to improving child outcomes and the quality of health care for all children. The Center's emphasis is on health care systems in the greater Cincinnati area, the State of Ohio and nationally.
Prior to that position, Dr. Simpson was the ACH Guild Endowed Chair in Child Health Policy and Professor of Pediatrics, Nursing and Public Health at the University of South Florida. She also serves as the National Director for Child Health Policy for the National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality and was elected in 2005 to the Board of the Ambulatory Pediatric Association as the chair of the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee. She serves on numerous other national and state advisory groups, and writes and speaks frequently on child health policy and quality of care for children.
Dr. Simpson formerly served as the Deputy Director at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality at the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). During her seven years as AHRQ's Deputy Director, she worked closely with both Clif Gaus and John Eisenberg in shaping the transition of the Agency from AHCPR to AHRQ helping to manage periods of serious budget cuts (1996) as well as budget growth (1997-2001). She also spearheaded initiatives to increase the quality and quantity of child health services research sponsored by the Agency. She is the recipient of a Senior Executive Service Meritorious Presidential Rank Award, the DHHS Secretary's Distinguished Service Award, and the Excellence in Public Service Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She received her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Public Health and completed her medical degree at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Simpson received postgraduate training and fellowships from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, the Institute for Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. |
