AcademyHealth sponsors periodic briefings, sometimes in collaboration with other organizations, to highlight relevant health care issues to researchers, policymakers, the media, and other stakeholders. On June 4, 2003, AcademyHealth and the Friends of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) sponsored a briefing devoted to identifying how the latest health services research can help address issues related to patient safety. The event featured the nation's leading experts on this topic, including Lucian Leape, M.D., Harvard School of Public Health; Brent James, M.D., Institute for Health Care Delivery at Intermountain Health Care; Carolyn Clancy, M.D., AHRQ; and Dana Pavey, American Enterprise Institute. AcademyHealth also sponsored a luncheon briefing on June 18, 2003 to discuss how evidence-based research helps frame critical issues in long-term care, quality, and financing.
